This book and Mary Pearson’s THE ADORATION OF JENNA FOX are both about girls who are in life-ending accidents and then have their…brains, or their consciousnesses, I guess, downloaded into new bodies. Both deal with the ethics surrounding this, and what happens to them and the people in their lives as a result of the [...]

I am happy to report that I enjoyed this second installment of CANTERWOOD CREST just as much as I enjoyed the first one. The story picks up in the second semester of Sasha’s 7th grade year, which is not too long after the first book took place. One of my major concerns with a series [...]

Can the movie POSSIBLY be as good as the trailer?
(Please?)

THE SECRET IDENTITY OF DEVON DELANEY was a big, big hit at Children’s Book World, and I think I’m going to need to make FOUR TRUTHS AND A LIE a big, bit hit at Pudd’NHead. You guys don’t need me to harp on again about how much in love I am with some of today’s [...]

I just love Elizabeth Scott, and this book just throws more fuel on the fire of my love.
(But hey, Elizabeth? Couldya link to Indiebound on your website? Fan the flames of love a little higher?)
This book is blurbed by Sarah Dessen, and she’s who I’d compare Scott to the most, although Scott’s characters and [...]

You may remember that I love horse books, and the fact that I love age-appropriate books for tweens is practically the hallmark of this website. So I picked this up with a good feeling, despite being a little wary about the main character attending an elite boarding school. I was a little afraid that this [...]

I have known Melissa Anelli, peripherally, for over ten years. Long ago, in another lifetime, we were…ardent? fans of the musical RENT. (We are still fans; we are still ardent; we no longer go almost exclusively by our AOL screen names or sleep out on the streets of Manhattan for $20 tickets. Especially not me. [...]

Some confessions:
1. When I heard that Cassie Clare, OMGFAMOUS fanfic writer, had gotten a book deal, the first thing I did was roll my eyes and think “well, THAT’LL be great.”
2. When the galley of CITY OF BONES arrived at the shop, I rolled my eyes again and thought, “okay, you’re in for a sucky [...]

I’m kind of confused about this book. The tag line on the front says “Get your goth on.” The description on the back calls Philippa, the main character, a “goth girl.” And yet on page two Philippa explicitly states that she is, in fact, NOT a goth girl, and later in the book says that [...]

It’s a good time, book-wise, to be a tween.
I read the galley of THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER BOOK CLUB within the first few days after it arrived in our shop. I remember that the Simon galleys arrived late that season and we had less than a week to evaluate them for initial purchase.
As soon as I started [...]
