I grew up a misfit in gradeschool and spent many lonely friendless hours in the library - specifically in the kids' books section even when I had reached the age of 13. Because I was not accepted by my classmates, I found friends in all the childrens' books I read - they kept me company, told me stories and helped me become very imaginative. And I'd like to think these books kept me sane and normal and prepared me for the day when I would be finally accepted by my peers - that happened AFTER I won my first beauty pageant at the age of 15.
